Half
Dome rises to an elevation of 8,842 feet. At
87 million years old, the type of granite making up the
dome is the youngest plutonic rock in the valley. (Plutonic
rock is formed beneath the earth's surface by intense
heat, pressure, and slow cooling.) The Half Dome Tram
tour is optional.
Motorcoach
Itinerary:
San Francisco hotel pick-up between 7:15 a.m. and 8:00
a.m. Brief stop around
10:30 a.m. Enter Yosemite Park at about 12:15.
VALLEY SIGHTS INCLUDE:
On the way in we drive up to Tunnel View to see most
of Yosemite Valley including El Capitan, Bridalveil
Fall and the Half Dome. Driving on the south side of
Merced River you see The Three Brothers, Sentinel Rock,
Yosemite Falls and Meadows. Past the Chapel and crossing
the Sentinel Bridge we reach Yosemite Lodge by 1:45
p.m. With two hours there you can walk to Yosemite Falls
and take the free shuttle to the Visitor Center. (A
two hour Valley Floor tour on an open air tram is operated
from Yosemite Lodge - check with your driver/guide for
details.)
Return
Trip from Yosemite Lodge at 3:45, arriving at San Francisco
after 8:30 p.m.
